Welcome
Dear Families,
St Joseph’s Feast Day on March 19, is an annual celebration of all things St Joseph. We had a wonderful morning, attending our local church for a prayer service. We then walked to the park, where our students enjoyed a sausage sizzle, drinks and participated in games organised by their year 6 peers.
This week we pray that St Joseph, who protected and cared for the Holy Family will kindly keep us all united in the love of Christ.
St. Joseph, watch over us and care for us just as you cared for the child Jesus; and by your help, may we come to know Jesus better.

Kindergarten Family Night
Thank you to the kindergarten parents who were able to make it to our Kindergarten gathering on Tuesday evening. It was a lovely chance to meet new people, join in a few games and share dinner.

Term 1 Family Teacher Meetings
In week 11 of this term we will be providing an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teacher. You will be able to discuss their Term 1 schooling and learning progress as well as their goals going forward. Bookings for these meetings are now open via COMPASS.
Religious Education Curriculum
This week teachers have been meeting as professional learning teams with Warren Niethe from the Catholic School’s Office. Warren has been supporting our school to plan and teach Religious Education (RE) in a hands-on and fun way, whilst also making sure it is given the same rigour as any other key learning area. In highschool RE is treated like any other subject with assignments, exams and study is required by students. We are aiming to keep sparking our students’ interest in this subject.
Holy Week
Easter is almost upon us. We will gather as a school to reflect on the mystery that is Easter. All students will have a role to play in bringing the Easter story to life. Please join us for this special occasion in Mercy Hall on Thursday, 28 March at 10.00am. All are welcome.
Teaching and Learning
Learning Intentions and Success Criteria
As we continue to advance in our efforts to achieve the 2024 School Action Improvement Plan Goal for Teaching and Learning, ensuring that "All students meet the expected learning progressions for their grade in 'Grammar' and 'Punctuation'," teachers will implement explicit and tailored teaching strategies in the upcoming learning cycle. The learning will be based on the clearly defined Learning Intentions and Success Criteria for each group shown below. These goals will guide both teachers and students in the achievement of specific writing goals for their group as well as their own personalised goal, fostering a focused and structured learning environment. Additionally, teachers and students will utilise these criteria for teacher feedback, self-assessment and provide constructive feedback to their peers, promoting a collaborative and reflective approach to learning.

The School Cross Country Carnival will be held this Friday, 22 March.
The 8/9 years and 10 years age group will run a 2km course. The 11 years & Seniors age group (12/13 years) will run a 3km course. Students 5/6/7 years old will participate in a short course on the bottom oval. A student's age group is determined by the age they are turning this year as of 31/12/24.
Families are invited to the event, please gather at the bottom oval where the finish and start line will be located.
The schedule for the day is as follows:
- 9:30 - 10:50 8/9 and 10 year age group events
- 10:50 - 11:40 Lunch
- 11:50 - 1:30 11yr and Seniors (12/13 yr) age group events
- 1:40 - 2:10 Recess
- 2:15 - 3:00 5, 6, 7 year age group events
Those who finish in the top 5 in each age group from 8/9 years and above will qualify to represent our school at the Zone Carnival which will be held on Tuesday, 9 April at McAuley Catholic College. (8/9 years compete against each other in the same race at Zone level, as do 12/13 years).
Age champion medals and place ribbons will be handed out at our first School Assembly in Term 2.

Ginnagay Ngujawiny -Hello You Mob,
In Stage 3 we have been discovering the many aspects about Aboriginal culture.
Aboriginal people are the first living Indigenous human race to occupy the lands of Australia. They originated from South Africa 70,000 years ago and Asia 50,000 to 60,000 years ago.
Stage 3 learnt how Aborigines believe they have a profound spiritual connection to land. Connection to land relates to all aspects of existence - culture, spirituality, language, law, family and identity. The way Aboriginals express their culture is through storytelling, art, dance, music, songs and language.
Stage 3 had a special visitor, Mr Michael Woods (Pop), who is Eli and Ruby Woods' grandfather. Pop came to their classroom and shared his knowledge about his Aboriginal culture through storytelling, dance and music.
Pop also spoke about the one thing that all Aboriginal people abide by RESPECT. Respect for yourself and respect for others.
From a very young age, we’re taught to respect our elders, to respect country and to respect our community. Also, always give back whatever we can. Respect is given before receiving.

SCHOOL FEES
Term 1 school fees have now been applied. Your statement is available to view via the Compass app.
Thank you to those families who have made the change from Direct Debit to BPay for fee payments. BPay is the preferred payment method for school fees. Scheduled payments can also be set up using BPay, the Biller Code and your personal reference number can be found on your Fee Statement.
Paying through BPay ensures that your payment goes directly to your account. Any enquireies please contact the School Office.
ABSENCES
Please notify the School Office if your child will be absent for an extended period of time, Principal approval may be required.
Only full day absences are to be entered into Compass, for partial absences - arriving late or leaving early please phone the School Office to notify.
Change to afternoon travel arrangements may be emailed to the school if before 12.00pm sjpgraf@lism.catholic.edu.au
After 12.00pm please phone the School Office on 6642 2899 with any changes.
MUSIC LESSONS
Starting in Term 2 Mrs Hickson will be teaching voice/drama and piano lessons. These are private lessons that will take place during school hours.

Dogs at School
We ask you to please refrain from bringing your dogs to school at pickup time or any other time. We have students who are afraid of dogs and students with allergies. If it is a necessity please enter/leave via the parent pick up gates and NOT school the bus lines gate.
Project Compassion
This Lent the school is raising funds for project compassion. This fundraising includes the collection of cans/bottles. Simply collect the cans/bottles and send them to school each week with your child. The funds raised will assist in changing lives.
