Semester 2 Reports and Parent Teacher Meetings
Your child’s Semester 2 Reports are now ready to view. These can be accessed via the parent portal at http://parent.lism.catholic.edu.au Please contact the school office if you have any questions or require support. If you wish to discuss your child’s report with your child’s teachers please contact them directly via email. We encourage you to take up this opportunity as when families and schools work together we achieve far greater outcomes for students. The meetings will need to be via phone as we are still operating under Level 3 restrictions and unfortunately cannot have parents come into the school. For further information please see the note emailed home to all families last Monday.
Building Grant
It is very exciting that we have received a grant for just under $400,000. This was recently presented to our school by Kevin Hogan MP. We look forward to the improvements this will make for our students as we start building works in 2022.

St Joseph's Chess Tournament - Let the Games Begin.
Last week, 24 students competed in the annual chess tourament for the coveted title of Chess Champion St Joseph's South Grafton 2021. The competition and standard of play was of an incredibly high standard and all players should be extremely proud of themselves. The finals were such an exciting and tense event. I was most impressed with the manner in which the students congratulated each other after their matches, deconstructed the game, how checkmate was achieved and also the way they praised their opponent on such a great contest.
Our Chess Champion for 2021 is Kyra Barrett. The Runner up is Nicholas Beard. Congratulations Kyra and Nicholas. You certainly put on a great show demonstaing high levels of skill and very thoughful game plans.
K-2 Instructional Leader - Carole Reinhard
It was wonderful to have our Junior Joey students join us for the first of their three orientation sessions. It will be exciting to work with these students as they have a look at our school and get used to the school routines. Last week they were able to experience a Walker Learning Investigation session, a reading session, a maths activity as well as a cross craft activity. We hope they had a lovely time at school.
In Kindergarten students are learning to write a persuasive text which means they are learning how to convince someone of their point of view. In maths they are learning how to break apart a group of counters into two separate groups.
Stage 1 are also learning to persuade someone to their point of view in Literacy. In maths they have been working on investigating time last week and the area of a shape this week. If you would like to have a phone interview with your child's teacher, please contact the school to arrange a time that is convenient.
Sport Coordinator - Emma Davis
School Swimming Carnival 2022
The school swimming carnival in 2022 will follow the same format that was introduced this year. Students who wish to compete to represent the school at the Clarence Zone Swimming carnival will be invited to participate in the school swimming trials on Wednesday 9 February at the South Grafton Pool. The whole school swimming carnival will be held on Tuesday 22 February at Grafton Olympic Pool, where all students will be able to participate in a variety of events.
A note will be sent home with students at the commencement of the school year to collect nominations for the school swimming trials. Students will need to nominate prior to the event, nominations will not be excepted on the day.
Age champion points will be collected at both the swimming trials and swimming carnival, to determine the age champions.

Giinagay Ngujawiny -Hello You Mob,
This week Stage 1 revisited how to pronounce the numbers 1 to 10 in Gumbaynggirr language. It is really hard to learn a new language and to change from what we know to learning a different way of pronouncing a word or number.
Well done Stage 1.

School Banking update from Commonwealth Bank
For 90 years, our School Banking program has helped children learn about money, reinforced the importance of regular savings and provided structure for parents to support their children to save.
Though the program continues to have strong support from schools, parents and teachers, recent decisions by some state and territory governments because of a review by the corporate regulator mean we are unable to continue providing programs in schools, and we have had to make a difficult decision to close our School Banking program for all government and non-government schools across the country.
Our School Banking program was established in 1931 at a time when having a bank account was not commonplace, and since then we have helped more than 15 million Australians take their first financial steps. This would not have been possible without the wonderful support we have received from schools like yours, including all the parents and volunteers, and for this we are deeply grateful. Thank you.
Even though this is a sad time, School Banking has taught so many young Australians, past and present, the value of money and we believe this should be celebrated. We have created a place for you to share your stories, fondest memories and lessons learnt through the program. To share your story and access our financial education resources, please visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
Even though the CommBank School Banking program will not be returning to your school after this year, you can continue to make deposits into your child’s Youthsaver account through online transfers or at any CommBank branch. If you need further information please phone 132 221 or visit your local CommBank branch.
